Multi-media installation

  • Painting: Charcoal and oil paint on canvas

  • strips: calico dyed with hibiscus, madder, onion skins and coffee.

These visuals and sound come together to celebrate the 'Ban Feasa', an Irish phrase meaning woman of knowledge. Historically the Bean Feasa was the local healer using herbs and natural remedies.

The strips of fabric hung from the ceiling are hand dyed using natural dyes. These are references to the rags and other memorabilia people tie to the branches of faerie trees as a symbol of a wish/hope for the future. These are typically hawthorn trees and are believed to be inhabited by faeries or 'the good people'.

The music combines looped flute harmonies, bodhran (a traditional Irish drum), fiddle and field recordings.
